Privacy Policy

Overview

StudyRISC-V takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. StudyRISC-V is a small educational tool, not an advertising business, and the simulator is designed so that core usage works without an account.

Data We Collect

Account data: When you create an account, we collect your email address and account identifier. This is stored through AWS Cognito and used to authenticate you and to determine your account tier. Georgia Tech Pro accounts are identified by @gatech.edu email addresses and verification status.

Saved programs: If you choose to save assembly programs to your account, those programs are stored in AWS DynamoDB and associated with your account ID. Saved program names, source code, and timestamps are stored so you can retrieve them later. You can delete saved programs at any time from within the simulator.

Usage data: We do not use analytics services, advertising trackers, or third-party tracking pixels. We do not use device fingerprinting or browsing-behavior profiling. Standard infrastructure logs may still capture limited technical data needed to serve the site, detect abuse, and keep the service operating.

Simulator usage: The simulator runs entirely in your browser. Assembly programs you run but do not save are not transmitted to our servers as part of normal simulator use.

How We Use Your Data

We use your email address and related account data only to:

• authenticate your account;
• determine your account tier, including Georgia Tech Pro eligibility;
• enable account recovery and account management; and
• deliver saved-program features that you explicitly choose to use.

We do not use your email for marketing without your explicit consent. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties except as required to operate the service, including AWS infrastructure that provides authentication and storage.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on AWS infrastructure in the United States, including the us-east-1 region. We use HTTPS, AWS Cognito for authentication, and IAM-based access controls for the saved-program backend. No service can guarantee absolute security, so you should avoid storing secrets or sensitive personal data inside saved assembly programs.

Data Retention

Your account data is retained as long as your account exists, unless we need to retain limited records for security, abuse prevention, or legal reasons. Saved programs remain in storage until you delete them or request account deletion. Unsaved local history and theme preference remain in your browser until you clear them.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights including:

• the right to access your personal data;
• the right to correct inaccurate data;
• the right to delete your data;
• the right to data portability; and
• the right to opt out of data selling, although StudyRISC-V does not sell personal data.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act. Details about data sales and opt-out rights are described in the Do Not Sell section below.

Children's Privacy

StudyRISC-V is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information in error, contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically as the service changes. We will update the "Last updated" date when we do. Continued use of StudyRISC-V after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
